  • Attention: The secretariat of the UNCCD is currently inviting scientists to apply to become members of the SPI (The Science-Policy Interface). Candidates fulfilling the competence requirements listed in the call for scientists are invited to submit the application form together with a copy of their English curriculum vitae to scientific.advice@unccd.int.     The secretariat of the UNCCD is also inviting international organizations (IOs) and United Nations (UN) organizations to apply to become observers of the SPI. Organizations fulfilling the criteria listed in the call for IOs and UN organizations are invited to submit an expression of interest to scientific.advice@unccd.int. For complete information, see the call for IOs and UN organizations.
    The deadline for application is 6 April 2014, 2400 hrs CET.
    The SPI is expected to be an active and functional entity by June 2014 when SPI members will meet to define the programme of work for 2014 and 2015.

 

  • Attention: deadline for the Land for Life Award-- less than one month left for applications. We welcome their applications, and the information and application form is available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

    Apply for the 2014 Land for Life Award - 100k in prizes! The award will recognize innovation and excellence in sustainable land management, particularly collaborative efforts that promote soil health and reverse land degradation, particularly in the context of climate change. Three winners will be selected by an expert jury which will grant awards from a total prize fund of up to USD 100,000. Nominations are welcome from individuals, businesses, research and academic institutions, local governments, journalists and civil society organizations. The deadline for applications is 15 March 2014.

    We are particularly interested in activities that encompass efforts related to:

    • land and soil restoration
    • ecosystem-based adaptation
    • climate change, food security and land management
    • gender, climate change and land
    • community-based adaptation and mitigation efforts as they relate to land and soil
    • advocacy efforts for healthy land and soil
    • climate change adaptation and mitigation in the drylands
